イギリスでは propelling pencil といいます。「シャープペン」は和製英語で、英語で sharp pen といっても、「先のとがった鉛筆」という意味にしかなりません。 ただし、英米ではシャープペンは一般的ではなく、この語自体もあまり使われません。

アメリカの商標名の Magic Marker が用いられることもあります。「マジック（ペン、インキ）」というのは日本の商標名です。 また、細めのものを日本では「サインペン」と呼びますが、これも日本の商標名で和製英語です。細字用のフェルトペンのことなので英語では felt-tip pen [felt tip / felt pen] といいます。

アメリカでは scratch pad ともいいます。「メモ用紙」は memo paper、アメリカでは scratch paper、イギリスでは scrap paper ともいいます。 なお、日本語でいう「メモ」と英語の memo の意味が少しずれていることが、以下の memo の定義を読むとわかります。日本語の「メモ」に相当する語は note です。

日本語の「ホチキス」はこれを売り出したアメリカの会社 Hotchkiss and Company の社名からきています。英語ではふつう stapler といいます。 なお、「ホチキスの針」1本は a staple、つながったものは a strip of staples、針を外すものは staple remover といいます。

「プッシュホン」はNTTの登録商標名で、和製英語です。アメリカでは touch-tone (tele)phone ともいいますが、これは Touch-Tone という商標名に由来します。イギリスでは keyphone ともいいます。

アメリカでは鉛筆の硬さを番号でつけています。日本の硬度表示との対応は次の通りです。
#1 = B / #2 = HB / #2 1/2 = F / #3 = H / #4 = 2H

paste は「でんぷんのり」を指しますが、アメリカでは日本のようなでんぷんのりはまれです。 glue（ボンド、合成接着剤）や、mucilage と呼ばれるゴムのりが一般的に使われます。
